Continuing the program of affordable rental that is such an important aspect of the refurbishment of Regent Park, this project is an extension of the Phase 3 masterplan for the area. Designed to enclose a courtyard/playground, the building is U-shaped to take full advantage of its three street frontages. The building entrance faces River Street with townhouses providing a residential scale on Oak and on the newly extended Tubman. The upper floors form an interlocking mass that hovers over the base. The exterior is a tapestry of coloured metal panels reflecting the varied origin and character of the residents. All parking is underground, accessed by a ramp from the laneway, and the building is integrated into Regent Park’s centralized heating and cooling system.
